Carrying the Moon

"Carrying the Moon"

Question 1

Note

: The Q & A Series will end on Apr 25 Part 1, but he Series will carry on as usual.

I only needed to do 3 rounds form level of "Lifting the Sky" or "Carrying the Moon", and that was enough.

— Parveen, England

Answer

You can perform your chi kung but without going too deeply into "a chi kung state of mind" at 30% or less. Let us say I teach at 100%. You half that and go into "a chi kung state of mind" at 50%. You half the 50% to go into "a chi kung state of mind" at 25%, which is close to the 30%.

It is not easy to go into "a chi kung state of mind" at 30% or less, but you have to do it if you do not want to over-train. Our chi kung is very powerful. You take only one day to enter into "a chi kung state of mind", but real masters take months. Others do not perform chi kung; they merely perform gentle physical exercise.

Even 30% or less is quite a lot for your daily needs. If we have the potential of only 5%, it is still quite a lot. Most other people just practice gentle, physical exercise, which does not overcome illness, give good health, vitality, longevity, peak performance and spiritual joys irrespective of religion despite practicing for years.

Question 2

What I mean is that they are not specific chi kung courses. Please tell me how to value these contributions in order to make the corresponding courses valuable.

— Sifu Rafael Castro Vargas, Shaolin Wahnam Colombia

Answer

Genuine chi kung must be practiced face to face, a fact many people may not appreciate. A good analogy is Taijiquan, spelt as "Tai Chi Chuan" in English but the pronunciation is the same. There are no combat applications and no internal force in the "Taijiquan" practiced today. It is the same as chi kung, as well as driving and swimming.

If a practitioner has not practiced chi kung before, or Taijiquan, driving and swimming, he cannot learn them from videos or books. He has to learn chi kung, Taijiquan, driving and swimming from a master who is willing to teach him. He can practice the techniques correctly, even beautifully, but he cannot learn genuine chi kung, Taijiquan, driving and swimming because he doesn't have the skills. It is just practitioners fail to realize this important fact.

Genuine chi kung is rare, and high level chi kung is rarer still. Most people may perform the techniques, but they don't have the skills to enter into "a chi kung state of mind" and "to generate energy flow".

You have to charge high fees for those who want to learn genuine chi kung. Most people just practice gentle, physical exercise. Gentle, physical exercise does not give good health, vitality and longevity. High level genuine chi kung, like what we practice in Shaolin Wahnam, goes further. It gives peak performance and spiritual joys irrespective of religion.

Charging high fees is a good way to prevent those who learn genuine chi kung for fun. In the past, Christians paid with their lives. You don't depend on genuine chi kung for your livelihood.

But the most important price a student pays is to practice the art diligently. It is preferably for a student to practice genuine chi kung twice a day -- once in the morning and once in the evening or at night. He needs to practice for about 10 minutes a session; others need to practice for about an hour. However, if the student does not want to practice two sessions a day, he just practices for about 10 minutes. He will probably loiter away the time.

Question 3

I know you would rather not have classes taught online, and indeed, but for people classes are by far the best way to learn. Have you considered perhaps having Wei Foong or Chun Nga help with recording at least some qigong courses that family members could purchase?

— Sifu Molly Kubinski, Shaolin Wahnam Twin Cities

Answer

Thanks for suggesting that I would teach online or something I could put in webpages.

I would prefer not to. Firstly, I am a firm believer that if I go online I would debase chi kung and kungfu. People who have no foundation of chi kung would just perform gentle, physical exercise which does not contribute to good health, vitality and longevity even if they have practiced for many years and can perform the gentle, physcial exercise beautifully.

Secondly, those who have a foundation of chi kung learnt from us in Shaolin Wahnam, would know how to enter into "a chi kung state of mind" and to "generate energy flows". It would be even better if they practice kungfu. They need not have to enter into "a chi kung state of mind" because they are already initiated, just like for those who already have their driving license, don't have to take their driving test again.

In fact we ask them not to practice at their potential. They only have to practice at about 30% or less. You must differentiate my intensive or regional courses and your regular practice.

How do we arrive at 30% of their potential? If you take my teaching at 100%, and half that into 50%, and half the 50% into 25%, which is close to 30%. In other words, you half the 100% twice. If you find the 25% still too much, you can lower it further.

The crucial points are to enter into a chi kung state of mind, and to generate an energy flow. Most people cannot enter into a chi kung state of mind, and generate an energy flow. But you can enter into a chi kung state of mind and generate an energy flow within the first hour of an intensive or regional course.

I already have my website. I have increased my webpages, like I continue with my questions and answers, and special topics. I also use videos for travels to various places. I shall add more webpages when necessary.

The world lockdown will soon be over. There will be an increase in the number of people interested in genuine chi kung and genuine kungfu, and you and other worthy instructors should be ready for the increase. I shall then have intensive courses, especially for our Shaolin Wahnam Happy Family, and those interested in genuine chi kung and genuine kungfu.

If other people do not want to attain our intensive courses, it is their own problem and we do not want to interfere with it. Practicing genuine chi kung and genuine kungfu in Shaolin Wahnam is a rare opportunity. If they think wrongly that they can learn from videos and books, it is their choice.

Question 4

I think I once experienced a ball of chi rising to my head and then going to my stomach.

— Bala, India

Answer

You don't have the "Small Universe". It is an advanced art.

I ask you to attend my Intensive Chi Kung Course, which is a lower level than the "Small Universe". The Intensive Chi Kung Course is wonderful. It is just a few days, and it ranges from a beginners' level to a masters' level. You need to abide by The Ten Shaolin Laws.

The Intensive Chi Kung Course is just marvelous. You should read The Unbelievable Intensive Chi Kung Course. You can also have Essence of Intensive Chi Kung Course.

If you are not satisfied, you don't have to pay the training fee, but you have to pay for your airfare and your accommodation, and other things you may purchase. You need to tell me or my secretary if you are not satisfied one hour before the course ends. If you don't tell me, it is presumed that you are satisfied. Many are satisfied, and many return to take the course again.

If you are satisfied, you can take my Intensive Shaolin Kungfu Course or the Intensive Taijiquan Course. You need to know the 16 Shaolin Combat Sequences or the 12 Taijiquan Combat Sequences.

Question 5

Is it possible to lose the Small Universe after acquiring it? Can a person who is on medication attain the Small Universe or is it necessary to stop taking the medication before practicing the Small Universe?

I take one pill in the morning and one pill at night. I have to continue my medicine. I'm taking the medicine for schizophrenia. Is it alright if I practice chi kung while I continue to take my medicine?

Answer

I suggest that you come to Malaysia before or after the Intensive Chi Kung Course, the Intensive Shaolin Kungfu Course or the Intensive Taijiquan Course.

It is not possible to lose the "Small Universe" after acquiring it. A person who is on medication does not take the "Small Universe", because he is already healthy, full of vitality, has longevity, peak performance and spiritual joys irrespective of religion.

You are advised to take the Intensive Chi Kung Course, which is lower than the "Small Universe". The Intensive Chi Kung Course by itself is of a very high level. You can attend the Intensive Chi Kung Course irrespective of whether you are on medication or not. Most people stop their medication after the course as they have good health, vitality, longevity, peak performance and spiritual joys irrespective of religion.

It does not matter whether you are taking medicine for schizophrenia or any other illness. If you have practiced genuine chi kung for some time, you should not be taking any medicine. It shows that what you think is "chi kung" is not genuine, or it is of a low level or you have practiced incorrectly.

Question 6

Thank you for your advice on how to lower my potential and resume my "santi shi". I think I understand the principle behind it.

— Max, Malaysia

Answer

It is important that you carry on with your chi kung practice and with your "santi shi". The "santi shi" is much better than hitting a heavy sandbag and carrying weights.

"Santi-shi" is triple-cultivation, but hitting sandbags and carrying weights are just gentle, physical exercise if they are not performed as genuine chi kung. Triple cultivation brings good health, vitality and longevity, but gentle, physical exercise doesn't. Most people, however, do not realize it.

santi-shi

"Santi-shi" or Three-Body Stance

Question 7

Sifu, I spent the afternoon until now going through your website but failed to find what "systematic" means in the context of the Horse-Riding Stance and Three-Circle Stance. Can you elaborate what you mean by the Horse-Riding Stance and Three-Circle Stance being systematic while the Three-Body Stance is not?

Answer

"Horse-Riding Stance" and "Three-Circle Stance" are triple cultivation, i.e. they train the physical body, emotional balance, intellect and spiritual cultivation, but gentle, physical exercise only trains the physical body. I think in my previous webpages I used the term "systematical" instead of "systematic".

"Horse-Riding Stance" and "Three-Circle Stance" as well as "Three-Body Stance", or "santi shi", are triple cultivation, i.e. they are physical, emotional, mental and spiritual. But "Horse-Riding Stance" and "Three-Circle Stance" are systematic, i.e. they are well balanced and the body is in the middle, whereas in "santi shi", or the "Three-Body Stance", the left hand and the left foot, or the right hand and the right foot, are in front.

At first I wondered if the "Horse-Riding Stance" and the "Three-Circle Stance" are systematic or well balanced, i.e. if a practitioner can send his force from his "dan tian", especially if he rotates his "dan tian". But we do not do this in the "Three-Body Stance". The left hand and the left foot, or the right hand and the right foot, in front prevent this. But this was solved when I read in a classic about the Expansion Mode and the Correspondence Mode of the Three-Body Stance. The Expansion Mode and the Correspondence Mode send force to the wrist.

However, I only offer the Expansion Mode and the Correspondence Mode in a regional course; I don't offer them in an intensive course, like in an Intensive Shaolin Kungfu Course or a "Small and Big Universe" Course. However, if you have practiced the "Three-Body Stance" correctly, you would have sent force to your wrists. You need to practice the "Three-Body Stance", or the "santi shi", according to what I have described. You will not only have similar force, but are better than before, though you may not know it due to being used to.

Question 8

It's been my dream to learn kungfu from you since I first wrote to you more than twenty years.

Answer

The Shaolin Kungfu Course is a must. You should also practice "Lifting the Sky", "Pushing Mountain" and "Carrying the Moon" as well as the "Horse-Riding Stance" and "Golden Bridge" to develop powerful arms for sparring.

Later, you should practice "Abdominal Breathing" to build a ball of energy at your "dan tian" (or abdomianl energy field). Many people consider the "Small Universe" the chi kung as it develops a lot of internal force and mental clarity. It will also make you very lucky.

But you don't just practice the "Small Universe". You also have the "Big Universe" in the "Small and Big Universe" Course. I need a few days to activate the small universal and the big universal chi flow. Hence you have to practice "Abdominal Breathing". It is an advanced course.
