WUDANG SWORD
(Mo Tong Kim)
Grandmaster Wong demonstrating the Wudang Sword
The style of kungfu Zhang San Feng practiced on Wudang Mountain was known as Wudang Shaolin Kungfu, to be distinguished from the Henan Shaolin Kungfu at the Shaolin Temple in Henan Province. Eventually, Wudang Shaolin Kungfu was shortened to just “Wudang Kungfu”.
This was a normal trend in the history of kungfu development. For example, what we now call “Praying Mantis Kungfu”, “Choy-Li-Fatt Kungfu” or “Wing Choon Kungfu” were originally called “Shaolin Praying Mantis Kungfu”, “Shaolin Choy-Li-Fatt Kungfu” and “Shaolin Wing Choon Kungfu”.
Later on Wudang Kungfu evolved into Taijiquan. Hence, Zhang San Feng is honoured by many people as the First Patriarch of Taijiquan. He is also honoured as the First Patriarch of Internal Kungfu.
Wudang Kungfu is famous for its sword. Wudang is the most highly respected amongst the many schools of swordsmanship.
