Intensive Taijiquan Course, Penang, 5th to 11th September 2008 ? Part 10

DEVELOPING SKILLS IN STATIONARY PUSHING HANDS

Wahnam Taijiquan
When an attack is medium-range, sink back the body without moving the feet while deflecting the attack. When an attack is short-range, there is no need to move the body or the feet; just deflect with the hand.

Having familiarized ourselves with basic Taijiquan techniques in ?Grasping Sparrow?s Tail?, we progress to developing combat skills in stationary Pushing Hands. We purposely reduce the techniques to the minimum so as to focus on developing skills. We use ?White Snake Shoots Venom? for attack, and ?Immortal Waves Sleeves? for defence.

When the attack is short-range, we deflect it with our arm, without moving our body or our feet, using our elbow or shoulder like waist rotation. When the attack is medium-range, we sink back your stance using waist rotation, without moving our feet.

Amongst the skills developed in this stationary Pushing Hands are being relaxed throughout, generating an energy flow, sensing an opponent?s momentum and feelings, and using an opponent?s momentum to defeat him.
