Taijiquan Combat


On the morning of Day 4, course participants learned how to move into an opponent as well as Taijiquan combat sequences 1 to 9.

Course participants learned to move in from various steps to attack an opponent. Ensuring safety first is very important. In other words, an attacker covers the defence of an opponent adequately before attacking.

The distance to be covered between the attacker and the opponent are as follows:

  1. half a step
  2. one step
  3. many steps
Course participants also learned to differentiate the following:
  1. left to left
  2. left to right
  3. right to left
  4. right to right

Taijiquan Combat Sequences 1 to 3 comprises of the following

  1. Immortal Waves Sleeves
  2. Low Stance Vertical Punch
  3. White Snake Shoots Venom
The mantra of the footwork for the initiator and responder is left-right, left-right.

These three combat sequences are linked to together to corm a set called "White Snake Shoots Venom".

Taijiquan Combat Sequences 4 to 6 comprises of the following

  1. Green Dragon Shoots Pearl
  2. White Crane Flaps Wings
  3. Striking Tiger Poise
The mantra of the footwork for the initiator and responder is left-left, right-right.

These three combat sequences are linked to together to corm a set called "Green Dragon Shoots Pearl".

Taijiquan Combat Sequences 7 to 9 comprises of the following

  1. Thrust Kick
  2. Low Stance Single Whip
  3. Black Bear Sinks Hips
The mantra of the footwork for the initiator and responder is right-right, right-left.

These three combat sequences are linked to together to corm a set called "Black Bear Sinks Hips".
