MECHANICS OF EXPLODING FORCE AND STEPPING AND GLIDING FORWARD AND BACKWARD
Sabah 2016 -- Day 2 Morning

In the morning session of Day 2, course participants learned the mechanics of exploding force, and stepping and gliding forward and backward. They learned to change big movements to small movements, and to eliminate steps after knowing the progression. This can make the movements very fast without consciously attempting to increase the speed.

Mechanics of Exploding Force and Stepping and Gliding Forward and Backward in Intensive Taijiquan Course in Sabah 2016 from Wong Kiew Kit on Vimeo.

There are two requirements in "fa-jing" or exploding force

  1. Practitioners must have internal force.
  2. They must perform the mechanics of the exploding force movements correctly.
Course participants developed internal force from stance training and methods like "Grasping Sparrow's Tail" and "Lifting Water".

Rotation of the waist is most important in exploding force. The waist rotation enables internal force spiraling out from the dan tian, resulting in spiral force.

Course participants were taught the mechanics of stepping and gliding forward and backward. They started with big movements and performed all the necessary steps. Then they reduced the movements from big to medium, then to small.

Having learnt all the movements necessary for the progression, they gradually reduce the steps from about 30 steps to just 3 steps. These two ways made their movements very fast, without them consciously increasing their speed.
