Concluding Points
I have discussed Sigung's teachings on Good Thoughts, Words and Deeds and some aspects of the application of our Shaolin Arts in Daily Life. This is a truly vast subject so the topic is left open for further discussion. I conclude my planned posts now and hope this thread provides a place for further discussion.
Key principles of this thread:
1. Ensure we have Good Thoughts. Good thoughts for ourselves and for others, if bad thoughts arise we clear them using our skills of letting go or replacing them with good thoughts.
2. Ensure we speak Good Words. Be kind, considerate, respectful and chivalrous with our words to radiate compassion and love to all we meet.
3. Ensure we do Good Deeds. Spend some regular time reflecting upon the good deeds we can do for our friends and family then enjoy doing them.
4. Study the relationship of our 10 Shaolin Laws to Good Thoughts, Words and Deeds. The philosophies are profound and can help us to live the Spirit of Shaolin, take time to understand the many levels of these guiding principles.
5. Examine our lives so that we are not driving with the brakes on. Check that there are no areas in our lives which are impeding the benefits of our practice.
6. Live everyday to open our hearts. Ensuring everyday brings joy to ourselves and others.
7. Live skillfully. Learn to apply our Chi Kung and Kung Fu skills in daily life — skills such as relaxing, letting go and entering Zen.
8. Smile from our hearts. Use this ultimate skill many times from day to day.
9. Apply our Shaolin tactics, strategies and principles in our daily lives. So that we are more effective in our work and play.
10. Don't worry just enjoy your life. If in doubt relax, smile from your heart and enjoy whatever you are doing.
I conclude with Sigung's recent comments from Questions and Answers October 2007 Part 1:
| I would like to share with you a great cosmic truth. What you are and will be, is what you think. If one constantly thinks of himself as being sick and unhappy, he will be sick and unhappy. It is very important that you must always have noble thoughts — of yourself and of others. And especially when your mind has become powerful, you must always use it for good. |
Thanks to everyone for their contributions and I look forward to more.
Love and respect to all

Hi everyone,
Since this is really relevant to my life right now (and when Sifu says it's a cosmic truth -- he's not exaggerating, I've experienced the effects of this law directly) I have found that replacing bad thoughts with good thoughts is a gradual process requiring "mindfulness" and "breathing" and "smiling".
Here's how I do it:
A thought: I hate Person A
(Mindfulness --j ust notice the thought, it will slowly dissolve)
Then Inhale, and Exhale if it really bothers you
And
Smile from the Heart
Repeat as required
Then slowly thoughts like "I hate A" become more like "A is unfortunate to have such blockages, I wish that A's heart will open and be happier", then to "May I be able to help people like A be happy, may I have peace so they will have peace, may I lead by example, and may I honor the Shaolin Way"
Warm regards,
Ray
